QR Codes as a Web Design Tools
Have you been seeing these distorted looking bar codes in magazines, catalogs, or other print materials? Do you know what it is? If you haven't seen them, keep your eyes open - they are popping up everywhere. But how does this apply to you and how does it relate to web design?
First of all a QR code is short for Quick Response. It is a two dimensional barcode that can be read by bar code scanners, or by a mobile device's camera. It contains data such as text, URLs, or other types of data.
QR codes originated in Japan in the 90s as a way to track car parts in vehicle factories. More recently, however, QR codes are used as a medium for mobile and guerilla marketing campaigns.
In 2011 QR codes have also been used in the military, film, and entertainment industry. In the US QR codes are relatively new but they are a great way to promote your website (especially a mobile version) by appealing to the mobile device user who has a sense of curiosity.
There are a myriad of ways to use QR codes to promote yourself or your website. The greatest part is that you can figure out your own way to use them however you like. If you'd like to create your own QR code go to:
